The bronze monument to the Holy apostles Peter and Paul, located in the Central part of Kamchatka, is one of the main decorations of the city.
October 17, 1740, the bauxite of the Second Kamchatka expedition under the title "the Holy Apostle Peter" and "St. Paul" entered the Harbor. That's when Vitus Bering decided to call this the harbour - the harbour of STS. The apostles Peter and Paul, and appeared on its shore new settlement Petropavlovsk Harbor. This date became the date of birth of the city.
Because until that time the town had a monument dedicated to the saints, and on Kamchatka Orthodoxy is the main religion, city hall decided to install the Holy apostles Peter and Paul monument. Plan composition of the future monument was commissioned to develop the sculptor Sergey Isakov. The architect put the designed layout of the monument on public display in the Church of St. Nicholas, and then began a discussion on the choice of installation locations. There have been many different proposals. As a result, a new memorial was chosen on the shores of Avacha Bay, on the background of amazing mountain landscape.
Inauguration of the monument to the heavenly patrons of the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky on the waterfront of Avacha Bay was held on 16 October 2005 at the same place and the dedication of the monument.
