Historical Museum in the town of Pleven is located in a two storey building, built in 1888 for the army. The total area of the Museum complex is about 7000 square meters. On the territory adjacent Park contains an exposition. In the main Fund of the Museum contains more than 180 thousand exhibits. Specialized library in the complex has 10 thousand volumes of scientific literature and periodicals.

The regional historical Museum was founded in 1903 by a local Archaeological community, whose members had assembled his own collection of artefacts discovered during archaeological excavations in the fortress Strigose. In 1923, the collection was presented at the exhibition in the center-a library of "Consent", and in 1953 the Museum acquired the status of an independent scientific and cultural institutions. In 1984 he moved to an old building, which is today.

The Historical task of the Museum is the collection, study, preservation of monuments of culture, samples of the flora and fauna of the region of Pleven and Lovech. On the territory of the region were discovered such important archaeological sites, like the Roman city Ulpia Escus (CA. I-IV centuries), early Byzantine fortress Strigose (IV-VI centuries), the medieval Bulgarian fortress in Nikopol.

The Museum includes the following sections: "Archaeology", "History of Bulgaria XV-XIX century", "modern and contemporary history, Ethnography, Nature and others. The age of the oldest exhibits is about 50 thousand years. Here you can see the ancient weapons, coins, figurines, gold and silver jewelry, armor, ancient icons, books, costumes and jewelry, household items and much more.

In the open air Museum presents a rich collection of samples of military equipment.
