Small town Luzhany is considered one of the oldest settlements in the Pilsen region. First it was mentioned in handwritten documents dated 1175.
In 1245 the centre of the village was decorated with powerful wooden Fort, which was a safe haven for all residents of Logan. When it was destroyed, and on its place was built a new stone castle. It happened at the end of the XVI century. And from that time the history of the two-storey castle Luzhany.
The building, erected in the Renaissance style, in the nineteenth century, rebuilt in Baroque style. The greatest change in the appearance of the castle was made by one of its owners – Josef Hlavka, who was involved in the architectural work and knew what to do to turn a modest castle in a real Palace. First he destroys the upper part of the building and extends it to three floors, changing its shape. A small Palace tower is broken. In its place was erected the hexagonal building, the façade of which is decorated with a large dial. The castle interiors are decorated in neo-Renaissance style.
Currently in the castle Luzhany a Museum dedicated to the most famous to its owner – the Josef Hlavka. His private chambers consisted of many rooms, the most beautiful of which are library, Small lounge and bedroom. The walls are decorated with art paintings depicting genre scenes from the life nobility of the XIX century, and portraits of family members Domes.
Interesting and will be visiting the castle chapel, which was built in 1887. For the decoration of her arch was invited by a personal friend Cupola artist K. Lobstein who lived and worked in Vienna.
