Residence of the Archbishop Photo: residence of the Archbishop

The residence building was built for the Archbishop wolf Dietrich von Raitenau in the early eighteenth century. Now there are government and University authorities.

The luxurious interior was entrusted to Lucas von Hildebrandt and was completed in 1727. Ceremonial halls in the style of late Baroque and early classicism ornate wall and ceiling paintings, stucco and tapestries. On the third floor is a gallery with great collection of European paintings of the XVI-XIX centuries.

In the outer yard of the residence is a Baroque fountain, decorated with horses and tritons. On the opposite side of the square stands the New residence, where the Bishop lived during the rebuilding of his Palace. Since 2004, it houses the Museum of Sattler.
