Celtic Museum in the Austrian town of Hallein in Salzburg province is one of the most important collections of evidence of Celtic art and history in Europe. The Museum gives a comprehensive overview of the Celtic world, with an emphasis on the Alpine zones (the so-called Alpine Celts).
In the same building is the city Museum of Hallein, telling about salt production in the region, and about the famous melody of "silent night" by Franz Gruber.
Celtic Museum was founded in 1882 and was originally located in a civilian hospital, and in 1930 moved to the town hall. After only 22 years, the Museum has again changed the address while he was in the gate of the city fortifications, but in 1970 was moved to its present location.
Among the most interesting and unique exhibits of the Museum to mark the grave of a Celtic chieftain, tomb which dates from the second half of the 5th century BC, the Tomb was found in 1959 on the plateau Moser.
The Museum exhibition space is 3000 square meters. Here there is a permanent exhibition and temporary exhibitions.
In addition to Celtic the exhibition you can learn many interesting details about the production of salt on the second floor of the Museum.
