The huge Gothic Cathedral of Santa Maria is the third largest in Europe after St. Peter's in Rome and Saint Paul's Cathedral in London was built in the early XV century on the site of a former mosque. Its construction lasted more than a century. The biggest arch height is 56 meters. In the Royal chapel in Renaissance style with its ornate dome are the tombs of Alfonso X and his mother.

The altar, decorated with beautiful bars in the plateresque style, impresses with its luxury. Huge the altarpiece of the work of the Flemish masters all covered with gold. Every year on 8 December, on the eve of the feast of the Holy Sacraments here, continuing the age-old traditions, singing and dancing the minuet children dressed as pages. On the right side of the Cathedral there is the tomb of Christopher Columbus, which support the figures of the four kings representing Castile, Aragon, Navarre and Leon.

From ancient mosques survived the Orange courtyard where the faithful would perform ablution before prayer, and the Gate of the remission of sins – once were entering a mosque. The minaret was rebuilt in 1568 in a five - tier column-famous tower of the Giralda. Now on the tower, at an altitude of about 90 meters, is a viewing platform overlooking the magnificent views of Seville and the Guadalquivir. Ascent to the tower is via a gentle ramp with no steps.
