The city Hall building (Ayuntamiento) of Seville was built between 1527 in 1564. Situated practically in the city center, between the beautiful Plaza de Nueva and Plaza de San Francisco, this building is now considered one of the most beautiful in the city.

The building was designed by the architect Diego de Riaño, under whose leadership the building was completed and the Cathedral of Seville. The appearance of the building are intertwined elements and techniques inherent in the styles of Renaissance and Spanish plateresque.

The Eastern façade, facing Plaza San Francisco, made in the plateresque style. The facade is richly decorated with floral ornaments, pilasters, balustrade reliefs depicting historical and mythical persons and a beautiful, elegant moldings. The facade is also decorated with images of the heraldic emblems of Hercules and Caesar, according to the legend, are considered the founders of the city. Originally the main entrance to the building is carried out from the square of San Francisco. In the 19th century the building was renovated by architects Demetrio de Los Rios and Balbino brown, which created the new West facade in neoclassical style, facing the Plaza de Nueva. In the process of construction works the main entrance to the building was moved to its facade from Plaza de Nueva. In the project participated also known sculptors Pedro Lopes Domingos, josé rodríguez and Manuel ordoñez Echegoyen.

At city Hall the city archive is stored, which contains information about the history of Seville with the reign of the Catholic kings.
