Historical Museum of regional scale in Sliven is one of the oldest buildings in the city centre. Originally the Museum was a collection of exhibits of the people's culture club "Zarya", which was opened for visitors in 1913. Renewed exhibition "Treasures, Museum, memory" saw the light 12 may 2008 and its opening was timed to the 130th anniversary from the moment I assembled the first collection of the Museum. Also this date is memorable in view of the fact that 95 years ago, was founded Sliven historical Museum.
Most of the exhibition is connected with the everyday life of the Sliven region since the Neolithic. The basis of the location of all Museum exhibits is a thematic principle. Thus in the halls on the ground floor you can see samples of marble and bronze sculpture from the Roman period, with objects and jewelry made of bones – all of these items cover a impressive time period: from antiquity to the end of the middle Ages. One of the most important archaeological sites is the ancient inscription on the pedestal, praising Zeus.
Collection of tools shows them along with craft tools of the peasants, which they enjoyed from the period of antiquity to the middle ages. In the same part of the exhibition one can see a bronze vessels, pottery, weapons and tools of the three eras: bronze, ancient and medieval. All these riches were discovered in the vicinity of Sliven.
In the halls on the second floor is a collection of copper vessels and ornaments. Also it exhibits a rare collection of different weapons belonging to the period of Bulgarian revival. Extras: saber P. hit – one of the most ardent fighters against the Turkish yoke, scimitars, guns and flintlock weapons.
The last, third floor storage of finds from the Valley of the Thracian kings, which were discovered in the summer of 2007. The expedition led by famed archeologist Dr. Georgi Kitov. Here you can see all kinds of ceramic vessels, ornaments for horse accoutrements, funerary objects, amphorae and more.
