The Sochi art Museum is located in the Central area of the resort city. This Museum is the successor to the fine arts Exhibition hall of the city of Sochi, founded in 1971

The Museum is located in one of the most beautiful buildings of the city, which is a monument of architecture of the 1930s, This building was erected in 1936 as the administrative center of the Authorized Central Executive Committee of the USSR. The author of this project was made by the academician of architecture I. V. Zholtovsky.

Today the Museum occupies a total area of 0, 67 ha. In the Museum there are about 5054 exhibits, which includes almost all the most famous genres and types of art. In the Museum you can see the edged weapons II-I centuries BC, ancient silver, ancient Russian icons of the XVIII-XX century, collection of graphics, paintings and works of decorative art from the NINETEENTH century to the present. Here at the same time, exhibited about 10 exhibitions of temporary and permanent storage, causing continued interest of local citizens and visitors alike.

The Museum has three current exhibitions: "Russian art of the XIX-XXI centuries" (sculpture, painting, drawing), "Decorative art of Russia in the twentieth century" and "Mega-project. The layout of the Sochi Olympic" with planning projects of Olympic venues. The main asset of the Sochi Museum is a collection of paintings, replete with works of many famous artists like the pre-revolutionary period, and artists of the twentieth century - I. Aivazovsky, Ivan Shishkin, B. Kustodiev, V. Polenov, V. Serov and others.
