Kokalyane monastery located near the village Kokalyane, the mountains in the East of the Plan. Among the monuments of Bulgaria.
The patron of the monastery is Saint Michael, the Archangel. Once the monastery was connected with expensive Bystritsky, Boyana and Dragalevci monasteries. Also near Kokalyansko monastery was built the fortress of Urvich is one of the few fortresses of Bulgaria, who stood against the Ottoman invaders.
He founded a monastery in the era of the Second Bulgarian Kingdom, but with the arrival of the Turks, the monastery was destroyed. Restoration began only in the XIV century. From this moment and until the XIX century, the monastery was repeatedly ravaged.
In 1898, in the ensemble of the monastery complex there is a new Church. Since that time only a slab of stone with an engraved inscription. Today the monastery complex consists of renovated Church, commercial and residential buildings, the bell tower (built in 2000) and the chapels of St. Ivan Rilski and the Dormition of the mother of God.
In Katalanska monastery holds a legendary Kokalyane collection of the XVI century, the relics are associated with the reign of the last Tsar of Bulgaria in the middle Ages – Ivan Shishman.
Temple festival at the monastery two: 15 August takes place the celebration of the Holy virgin, and on 8 November – the day of St. Michael the Archangel.
