The Museum is "Nienschanz" is a historical and archaeological Museum in St. Petersburg, located on the promenade des Anglais, 6. This is the first and only Museum that describes the history of the city.

The Museum is "Nienschanz" was founded on 24 may 2003, with the participation of the project Manager Dmitry Alexandrovich Kiselev. Originally the Museum was called the "700 years – Landskrona, Nevskoye Ustye, Nyenskans". The Museum is housed in the former building of Petrozavod, which stands on the site of the existing fortress Nyenskans Now "Nienschanz" is one of the Foundation's project "Okhta" Fund for the support of cultural heritage "Okhta". Area exhibition area is 250 sq. m.

A tour of the Museum is an epic journey through time that begins in the middle ages and ends in our days. The visitors presented a huge historical layer (more than 7 centuries of history) with many wars with great victories and powerful lesions, consisting of stories about how the generals and kings, and the smallest everyday details of bygone eras.

The exhibition was opened in the 300 year anniversary of the founding of St. Petersburg. The basis for the permanent Museum exposition has been organized by the archaeological excavations that were conducted from 1992 to 2000, the St. Petersburg archaeological expedition of the Institute, the IPA Heritage at the mouth of the river Okhta, on the territory of settlements of the pre-Petrine times. A separate piece of material devoted to studied in 1999-2000 on the right Bank of the river Okhta foundations of stone, the remains of dwellings from wood, structures Nyen (Swedish town) and the cemetery of the XVII century. In the exposition you continue to receive materials excavations in the same area since 2007 within the framework of public institutions-business Okhta-center.

The Museum exposition consists of two zones: the permanent exposition and temporary exhibitions. A permanent exhibition tells about the archaeology of the North-West. Temporary exhibitions dedicated to the history, major events in the world of archaeology and art. Visitors have the opportunity to go in the days of sail, to participate in archaeological expeditions to rediscover the little-known and half-forgotten page of our history.

The Museum presents the archaeological sites that were discovered in the course of the study site at the mouth of the Okhta river in the early 1990-ies: utensils, weapons, ornaments, household items, fragments of pipes; cartographic materials; reproductions of drawings, old engravings, paintings depicting the history of the Neva territories of the pre-Petrine period and way of life of the city Nyen; diorama of Niany the fortress Nyenskans; restoration equipment Swedish knight and Russian warrior (early fourteenth century).

In our days, in historical and archaeological Museum "Nienschanz" is working on a new exhibition. Here represents the findings of archaeology that reflect the history of settlements, which lived on the territory of St. Petersburg in 1703 and materials on the archaeology and history of the Baltic region.
