Perhaps nowhere else but in St. Petersburg it is impossible to see so many interesting and original monuments and attractions. The flight of thought of the St. Petersburg sculptors and architects is impressive: here you can see monuments to the huge number of people and animals that existed in real life or in books of great writers. Among the honoured memory in stone or in bronze – birds and cats, dogs and horses, photographers and kings, the Little Prince, and many, many other characters of history and literature. But among all literary characters, there was one that stands out from the usual range. This is one of the main characters of a story by Nikolai Gogol – the Nose. And the Nose is exactly where lived the owner, collegiate assessor and, as he himself is called to the importance, major Kovalev.
Monument to the hero of a fantastic story was hoisted on the facade of the house № 11 on the Rimsky-Korsakov Avenue in 1995, when the city was held "Golden Ostap" (international festival of satire and humor). The nose is immortalized in pink marble, mined in Ukraine, the birthplace of Gogol and mounted on a slab of grey limestone. Plate size is 60 cm in height and 35mm in width.
Amazing things happen with the characters on the pages of the works of the genius of Gogol. Monument of the Nose did it this way, as well as a Nose in the story. Once, in 2002, one September morning, the residents of St. Petersburg have not found the Nose to the place where he was supposed to be. He allegedly went for a walk. And, after a fruitless search, was made a copy of the monument, which is somewhat different from previous Nose (a little smaller than the original and with a cut on the tip of the nose with a wart). A copy was already preparing to install Nose suddenly decided to return. And in the summer of 2003, the monument was found on the street Average Podiacheskii, at number 15, on the site of the staircase. So, this Nose returned to its rightful place, and his understudy decided to hang on the facade of the house No. 2 in chernoreckom lane (one of the buildings of the Museum of urban sculpture). Thus, in St. Petersburg appeared two monument unusual literary character.
The idea of creating a monument to the Nose belongs to Vadim Semenovich Bug – actor, screenwriter, playwright. As for the author of the original sculpture, his fame can easily compete with the famous prototype of the monument. The sculptor is a man of many-sided talent, brilliantly manifested itself in many creative professions such as writer, artist, Director, costume designer, of course, the sculptor, and other. His name is Rezo Gabriadze. Among his screenplays for such famous films as "Mimino", "do Not cry! ", "Kin-DZA-DZA". Gabriadze is the author of the equally famous (and even, in some ways, the cult) statue of Chizhik-Pyzhik statue – a kind of the symbol of St. Petersburg. In recognition of the artist Rezo Gabriadze has been awarded numerous prizes and awards (State prize of the USSR, the Nika award, the Golden Mask, Triumph, etc.). Rezo Levanovich is also the holder of the title of Chevalier of the order of the Second Prize of the French Republic.
The story of the disappearance of the monument Nose, his return to her former position and the second appearance of the Nose would not be complete without mention of the construction in 2006 of another unusual monument Nose. This time, the monument Nose (N. In. Gogol! ) was established in Kiev, on the facade of the house on Andreevsky descent. After all, according to literary critics, the idea of Gogol's story was born in the brilliant mind of Nikolai in Kyiv. Now "Gogol's Nose" is one of the main sights of Kiev.
