Museum of Contemporary Art Sydney, the Museum is engaged in the collecting of contemporary art Australia and other countries in the world. It is housed in was built in the art Deco-style former Maritime Radiocommunication Services in the Western end of Circular quay. This is the youngest cultural institution in Sydney.
Museum of Contemporary Art was founded as part of a bequest by Australian artist of the emigrant John Power (1881-1943, who gave all his fortune to the University of Sydney for the organization of educational programs that would Australians with modern fine art.
After the 1989 Maritime Radiocommunication Service moved to new premises, the empty building was donated by the state government of New South Wales, the Museum of Modern Art. In 1990 began a large-scale restoration work, which was sponsored by the University of Sydney and Foundation of Power, and a year later the Museum was officially opened to the public.
Today on 4 floors of this impressive building, facing Sydney Harbour, home to several galleries dedicated to contemporary art since 1970-ies till nowadays.
