Port gate – city gate in Szczecin, built in Baroque style in the years between 1725 and 1727 by the Dutch architect Gerhard Cornelius van Wallgrave. This is one of two gates (along with Royal gate), which has been preserved as part of the Prussian fortresses.
The outer facade of the gate is decorated with sculptural panorama of Szczecin and the image of the God of the Oder river, made by a French sculptor Bartolomeo Demarta. Below is a shield with the monogram of the Prussian king Friedrich Wilhelm I, above which is a gilded inscription in Latin. This inscription informs about the rights of the king in Brandenburg, Pomerania and Stettin, which Friedrich Wilhelm in 1719, bought from the Swedes for two million thalers. Port gate crowned oval shield with the arms of Prussia and the Royal crown.
From 1902 to 1932, near the gate was a fountain in the Baroque style with a statue of the goddess Amphitrite sculptor Reinhold Felderhoff.
During the Second world war, to protect the Port gate from the devastation of the decor was dismantled and hidden in the forest, Arkona. Themselves the gates on all sides were planted with ivy. The trees served as a good disguise, so Port gate have not been destroyed. All the furniture was returned to the façade of the gate in 1957.
Currently, the Port gate shop art products.
