Taganrog is the birthplace of the great Russian writer Anton Pavlovich Chekhov - remembers and honors him not only in the numerous museums and monuments of outstanding and famous personalities, but also in the monuments of his literary heroes.
In Taganrog after graduating from high school, young Anton, unlike his brothers, embarked on a literary career, here he wrote his first works. Father, Anton Pavlovich, Pavel Yegorovich Chekhov, being a merchant-the merchant kept the shop of colonial goods at the station and at the intersection of the Alexander and Monastery (now the streets of Peter and Dzerzhinsky). It is here that young Czechs overheard many stories from the life of citizens, which later formed the basis of his works. In the shop at the above-mentioned intersection since 1977 there is a Museum "the Chekhovs 'Shop".
Directly opposite the Shop of Chekhovs" may 13, 2010, during the annual Chekhov book festival, has established a multi-figured compositions based on the story "Thick and thin", by sculptor David Begalova. The composition consists of four bronze figures, each half a meter high, the pedestal is also made entirely of bronze.
The guide will surely remind you of the story of the eponymous story by A. P. Chekhov and the moment of meeting characters, former classmates of Michael and Porphyria with his wife, nee Mancebo, and the son of this couple – Nafalem. Characteristic postures and facial expressions of the characters sculptural composition successfully and subtly convey the atmosphere of their chance meeting and immediately remind the essence of the story.
Interestingly, the city authorities and the management of the Taganrog Museum-reserve had originally planned to install the sculpture near the old station "Taganrog -2" or in the square "At the gate", but as a result of much debate, settled on the place near the "shops of Chekhov". Indeed, the sculpture seamlessly into the intersection, the characters as if entered from the shop and tell you the last provincial news.
To find the monument is not difficult: it is twenty minutes walk from the old station, moving through the historic center, is only to collapse on the street Alexander, beating the gymnasium on the left side. Any counter in the city will tell the location of the "shops of Chekhovs" and the monument.
