Over the waters of the Gulf of Taganrog is seen brick mansion, reminiscent of their Windows, a pointed spire, and the tower of a medieval castle. It is located on Greek street, the House-Museum of P. I. Tchaikovsky. On the facade there is a marble plaque with gold letters, telling us that stayed here thrice the great Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.

The house in 1871, was built by order of D. G. Kalinowski, Lieutenant-Colonel of the don troops in Western European romantic style by the architect Petrov. But, as often happened in those years, Kalinowski lost a unfinished house in the card to the merchant by the name Sarentino. The merchant soon died, and his disconsolate widow rented the house to his brother Pyotr Ilyich – the captain of the first rank Ippolit Ilyich Tchaikovsky from 1883 to 1894.

Thus, the house belonged to the family of Tchaikovsky, but the fact that there was three times visited by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. The first time it happened in 1886, then Pyotr Ilyich stopped at brother's on the way to the Caucasus. As this was a family visit, no concertos Pyotr Ilyich in city did not give, and just enjoyed spending time with family, walks on the boat, fresh greens streets and the sea breeze. Interestingly, Tchaikovsky did not leave any memories of this visit. The second time the composer stayed here in 1888 with a short visit on his way from Vienna to Moscow, and a third on the way back from the Caucasus, where he was visiting his brother Michael.

Until 1910 the new owner of the house was General Zealously. In 1910 the Ministry of education of the Russian Empire buys him a house and places here higher primary school, which functioned until the revolution of 1917. Later the house was in the possession of the merchant S. I. Westerman until 1925, when it was nationalized. In Soviet times there were many different agencies.

Only after a very long renovation in may 1976 in the building offer the music Department of Chekhov library, and later the Department of foreign literature, a concert hall, a room-Museum of P. I. Tchaikovsky, taking visitors today. Externally, the building has retained its original appearance.

Inside the house-Museum of P. I. Tchaikovsky is a big collection of songbooks, scores of various operas, musical notebooks. There is a separate area, where anyone can, getting headphones to listen to a favorite piece of music, back in the era of musical genius.

The house has a very cozy concert hall, there is a regular so-called "musical Shabbat" - the piano concertos performers Taganrog and visiting musicians. Program of musical Saturdays is very diverse, it is dedicated to the anniversaries of different composers, historical events of musical life. In addition, regularly celebrated the birthdays of P. I.
