Salt lake, located on the Taman Peninsula between Cape Iron horn and Bugaz estuary, 15 km from Taman, is the most saline lake in the Krasnodar region.
The Salt lake was formed not so long ago. In the early NINETEENTH century it was a part of the Kuban estuary, where fell Idiga is the main duct of the Kuban. By the mid-NINETEENTH century the estuary was divided into four small estuary - Kiziltash, Buhasa, Vityazevo and zocor. After some time from the estuary Buhasa separated the Salt lake, which until 1952 was extracted salt - up to 20 thousand tons a year.
From the high watershed of the lake looks great and deep, but if you come closer, this impression disappears. The total length of the Salt lake - about 1500 m, width – about 1000 m and the maximum depth is only 10 cm.
In summer a small Taman lake is covered with a crust of snow white coarse sea salt. Then the lake can freely move about the ground, but you should wear shoes to avoid scratching the legs. Under a layer of compacted salt lies a shallow, half-meter layer of mud. Therapeutic mud is a black, oily to the touch, plastic silt with a strong smell of hydrogen sulfide. On air Il oxidizes quickly and becomes gray.
Mud is very similar to volcanic, but it is less homogeneous and more liquid. It is successfully used in spas and mud baths of Gelendzhik and Anapa. It is an excellent tool for the prevention and treatment of radiculitis, arthritis and other joint diseases.
The Salt lake from the Black sea separates the beautiful beach. The distance from Salt lake to the sea is about 100 m. the beach is equipped with comfortable cabanas and rescue rigs for safety of tourists.
