The main historical attractions of Tangier are in the old part of the city – Medina. And on the highest point situated white Palace Dar El Macsen. The Palace was built in the XVII century and once belonged to the Sultan. Richly decorated with mosaics and a variety of decorations, the Palace was designed in the traditional Arabic style. He is a Palace complex with galleries and courtyard patio.
In the Palace of Dar-El-Macsen lived only two of the Sultan of Morocco, later the Palace was used as the residence of the Pasha of Tangier. The halls of the Palace make a striking impression with walls and floors covered with beautiful mosaics, wooden ceilings decorated with Oriental wooden carvings and colorful paintings. In 1922, the Palace was restored and converted into a Museum. Beautiful rooms, which themselves are Museum pieces, transformed into Museum halls. Today in the Palace of Dar-El-Macsen housed two museums – the Museum of archeology and the Museum of Moroccan arts.
The art Museum houses artifacts that represent the decorative arts of the Moroccan people. Here you can see a rich collection of world-famous Rabat carpets. No less striking in its splendor and luxury collection of women's jewelry, from which it is impossible to look away. This is a beautiful belt, delicate tiaras, exquisite earrings and bracelets made from gold plated silver and gold, inlaid with precious stones in a traditional Spanish-Moorish style. The authors of these jewellery are the master of Essaouira.
The Palace also houses the Museum of archaeology, which houses artifacts Dating from the prehistoric era to the first century ad, depicting the ancient history of Morocco. Here you can see a Carthaginian tomb and a Roman mosaic called "the Journey of Venus".
One of paths of the Palace Dar El Macsen leads into the wonderful gardens Mendolia, which grow beautiful centuries-old trees.
