The Kashveti Church (St. George) – Orthodox Church, located in the Georgian capital Tbilisi, at the Central city Shota Rustaveli Avenue, near the building of Parliament of Georgia. Kashveti is a beautiful example of religious architecture of Georgia of the first half of the twentieth century

The name of the Church was due to an ancient legend, which is directly connected with the place where today is located the Church. According to this legend, the famous Georgian of St. David of Gareji slandered pregnant woman, who claimed that he seduced her. This is where the eyes of all the people of the Monk touched his staff to the abdomen of a pregnant woman and asked: "child, who is your father". Then came the name of one pagan. According to the legend, the woman, who has slandered David, did not give birth to the child, and the stone. The words that form the name of this temple, "kVA" and "seam" with the Georgian language are translated respectively as "stone" and "give birth".

The modern Church building was erected in 1910 by the Author of this project was the local architect of German origin Leopold, Belfeld. The Church was built on the site of the former, much dilapidated temple, built by Prince Givi of amilakhvari in 1742 the Old Church had the same name – Kashveti. The Church of St. George (Kashveti) is almost an exact copy of the famous Samtavisi Church, which is a wonderful example of medieval Church architecture. The temple is richly decorated with stone carvings made by the craftsmen of Georgian families Agladze. In Kashveti you can see the miraculous icon of St. David, by which the Church became known throughout the country.
