Gallery Farkas that in Old Jaffa, is the world's largest collection of Israeli historical posters. The basis of the local collection – military, political, advertising posters created by talented artists both before and after the creation of the state of Israel.
The Farkas family founded the collection in 1948, when Israel appeared on the world map. By this time the Jewish poster has come a long way. One of the oldest exhibits in the gallery – poster 1925 work of the founder of the Israeli design Zeev Raban, advertising Jaffa oranges (Jaffa has always been famous for its orange groves). Poster 1939 encourages Jews to join the British army. On another poster, a woman and her son escorted his father-a soldier, the label asks to remember "emergency tax" in aid of soldiers ' families.
During the Second world Jews fought on all fronts. On the poster, published in the U.S. in the forties, the slogan is "Jewish soldiers in need of a Jewish army! ". Close – printed in 1945, immediately after the collapse of Nazi Germany, black-white sheet, urging people to evacuate survivors from the Holocaust of the Jews in Palestine (Britain was strongly opposed to such immigration).
A unique exhibit is a poster of the Declaration of independence of Israel, printed at the time, only fifty copies have survived only three of them).
