Tabon cave is located in Quezon province in the southwestern part of the island of Palawan. The complex consists of 29 caves, of which only 3 are open to the public. Today Taborska Caves are administered by the National Museum of the Philippines – they became world famous after there were found the remains of the ancient Filipino people.

In 1962, the staff of the National Museum under the direction of Dr. Robert Fox during excavations discovered the skull of the so-called Dabanskogo person. The age of the finds from 22 to 24 thousand years. Also here were found funerary vessels, pottery, ornaments of jade and other stones, stone tools, animal bones and human remains whose age is more than 47 thousand years. This is the most ancient human remains found in the Philippines.

In 1972 Cape Liuwn the Tabon caves was declared a nature reserve. It also includes an island with an area of 138 hectares, which is connected to the Palawan mangrove forest. Scientists believe that 50 thousand years ago people lived here. And the age of the limestone caves themselves – about 25 million years. In 1991 the administration of the island was drawn up a plan for the development of tourism in this area, its natural and cultural significance attracts thousands of visitors annually.
