Reserve Jendema located in Stara Planina mountain, South of the peaks Botev. A protected area is the area comprising the gorge R. Tazha, the catchment R. Biala River, and the upper reaches of the river Tundzha. Like some other parks of Bulgaria Jensema protected under the program “Man and biosphere” (UNESCO) and included in the world network of natural reserves in 1977.
“Gundem” translates from Turkish language – hell, the underworld. This is the name of the area was due to its inaccessibility, otvesnost cliffs, gorges, harsh weather conditions. Despite this it is home to a large number of wild animals. Here there are bears, deer, wild goats, wolves, etc.
Despite the rarity and severity of this earth, people have paved a lot of the tourist routes, and a coveted goal of many tourists is climbing to the peak of Botev, its height is 2376 m.
The bravest of tourists get the opportunity to see the highest waterfall in Bulgaria – Paradise Bryzgalin (its height is 124, 5 m). To reach the falls and the only nearby tourist “Paradise” is only on horseback or on foot, since the entry of vehicles into the territory of Gendema is strictly prohibited. Tourists are allowed to move only along a pre-marked trails.
For tourist purposes the Rangers of the reserve there is a trail biała River, adhering to which tourists can see the natural beauty of the reserve and not get lost. The trail passes 8 km from Kalofer mountains and another local attraction of the reserve is an ancient monastery.
