Cathedral of the assumption stands in Zubtsov, on the left Bank of the Volga. Its history is closely intertwined with the history of the city. In 1692 nobleman Maxim Cityref erected a wooden Church. And in 1801, on its place was built a stone Church, which has been preserved to our time. For its construction the Empress was allocated to 7 thousand rubles.
The Church had three altars: in the summer the Church of the Dormition of the Mother of God, in winter – St. Mary Magdalene and St. Alexander Nevsky. The assumption Cathedral is also treated and Kazan cemetery Church, built in 1788 with the throne of Kazan Mother of God.
In times of fierce repression against the Church, the assumption Cathedral was closed and used for the warehouse and prison. The fate of the Church in the years of the great Patriotic war remained contradictory information. According to one source, the Nazis did from the stables of the temple, and on the other – here the Germans were rounding up people for Church services.
When the city of Teeth was liberated by Soviet troops, the priest Vasiliy Znamenskiy, who began his liturgical activities before the revolution, made the official opening of the temple. Father Vasily graduated from Seminary in the Caucasus and studied on the same course with Joseph Stalin. He sent a letter to Stalin in which he asked his classmate to allow in zubrowska temple worship. The temple was used as a garrison building. Please father Basil was granted. After that, assumption Church for a long time was the only district in the current temple. Here were believers even from the neighbouring town of Rzhev.
In the early 21st century, the temple was still the only one in Zubrowska area. Only just recently opened a temple in Pogorely the Settlement, and in the centre of Albania, near the highway Moscow – Riga, erected a chapel in honour of Saint Nicholas.
The most revered Shrine in the temple is an icon of righteous Mary Magdalene and the Holy Prince Alexander Nevsky.
The Church now operates a parochial school, in which classes for schoolchildren. To do this, at the temple there is a room, it is the Church library.
