Museum of the history of Uglich is one of the oldest private museums. This Museum was formed to 1983, but the day of Foundation of the Museum is 31 July 1989. On this day, visitors are presented the first excursion and the music program.

First, the Museum was called "Uglich rings" and had the status of a historical and musical. Since that time, the Museum regularly takes visitors over the whole period of its existence it was visited by the representatives of 51 countries. The Museum established the ensemble of the Uglich bells, speakers not only in the Museum, but on the big stages, including at the State Kremlin Palace and the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, participated in the ceremony, when the Patriarch of Moscow was awarded the order of St. Andrew.

9 may 2009 the Museum acquired a new status. Now called the Museum of the history of Uglich.

The Museum exposition is placed in the house of the family collectors military history of Uglich and ethnographers Kulagina. This is a merchant's mansion belongs to the end of the 19th century, it is richly decorated with carvings and is located on a quiet street far from the city centre.

The exhibition consists of three rooms, and a Playground in the yard, where exhibits related to the history of the city of Uglich with its Foundation to the 20th century. The Museum has about two thousand exhibits, most of them unique. The main theme of the Museum - the heroic past of Uglich.

Special attention is paid to little-known pages of history of Uglich. The Museum has an archive, which contains about five hundred units and includes over 1000 different types of media.
