The city of arts and Sciences is a grandiose architectural complex located in Valencia, in the former mouth of the river Turia, moved to the South after the catastrophic floods. The city of arts and Sciences can be called the greatest architectural masterpiece of our time.
The idea of creating such complex suggested that Jose Maria Lopez Pinero, Professor of history of science of the University of Valencia. The Valencia President Juan Lerma endorsed the idea and in 1989 he directed the team of architects, is already carrying out work in these environments, the development of the project with a striking and unusual appearance. At the end of 1994, began the construction of a large complex designed by architect Santiago Calatrava. The complex of city of arts and Sciences is comprised of five buildings: the Opera house, as well as a stage for other theatrical productions (El Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía), an Imax Cinema, planetarium and laser theatre productions (L'hemisfèric), Gallery-garden (L'umbracle), Oceanographic Park in the open air (L Oceanogràfic) and Science Museum (El Museu de les Ciències Príncipe Felipe).
The complex was opened in 1998 with the opening of the first building - L'hemisfèric - Imax Cinema, planetarium and laser theatre productions. The last was completed the Opera house, El Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía, which was opened on 8 October 2005.
Outstanding building of modern architecture, the City of arts and Sciences, is surrounded by a beautiful green area with gardens and parks, fountains and pools, gazebos and places for rest.
