The lake of the Chicha is located in the village of New Cheech, 4 miles South of Velika Gorica. The use of gravel allowed to create several artificial ponds near the lake, the largest of which is new-the Cheech area 0, 9 square kilometres and a depth of about 50 meters.

With the advent of the lake, the groundwater level decreased, which led to the drying up of the wetlands in this area. The current concession for the exploitation of gravel on the lake Cheech ends in 2015, after which the concessionaire will be obliged to restore the shore, as they are too steep.

For a long time on the South coast of the lake was a large and popular beaches that have been closed in view of their failure to comply with the requirements of the competent experts.

Due to its geographical position (the Chicha is close to major cities such as Zagreb and Velika Gorica), the authorities have high hopes for is still not fully developed tourist potential of the site. The administration of Velika Gorica plans to build a massive sports complex on the shores of the lake. According to the draft, it will be the perfect place for active recreation on the water: the lake Cheech is a great place for swimming and Aqua-fun.

The plan is developed specifically for the southern part of the lake where will be built the Aqua Park with swimming pools and a Wellness centre. Also, there will be playgrounds, places for archery and, of course, parks and lawns for picnics and leisurely walks.

The Western part of the lake will occupy a sports centre for the adrenaline junkies: it is planned to build the track for karting and boating. The Northern part of the lake for a peaceful holiday – fishing and diving. In the Eastern part of the lake for tourists is planned to build hotels and campsites, as well as several cafes and canteens.
