Arbanassi is a village on the high plateau, four kilometers from Veliko Tarnovo. The village is considered as an architectural monument.
The name of the village dates back to the Albanians. They first occupied these areas after the Turkish authorities evicted them for the constant uprising in southern Epirus. The settlement was founded in the XII-XIV centuries, when the boyars Tarnovo was built a summer residence here, this was the era of the Second Bulgarian Kingdom. In Ferman (decree) from 1538 Suleiman the Magnificent, Sultan of Turkey, contains the first mention of the village of Arbanassi.
During the Turkish occupation the residents of Arbanassi mainly engaged in farming and trading, and some also mastered the craft. In the seventeenth century Arbanassi – the Mall, be with who had the whole of the Turkish Empire. During this period, wealthy merchants erected houses, resembling a small fortress: solid basements, strong walls, window bars, firmly bound doors and the absence of balconies, or verandas. Today they are one of the key attractions of Arbanassi. Till our days there were 80 houses, including 36 national monuments. Some houses are turned into museums. Most popular today – the house Konstantzalieva XVII century, where today you can see the life of the Bulgarians of the nineteenth century.
Among the national cultural monuments - five churches: St. George, Nativity, St. Demetrios, St. Athanasius, St. Archangels Gabriel and Michael. Near the village is the convent, which is also an interesting attraction.
For accommodation and entertainment in Arbanassi tourists are offered a variety of opportunities. You can stay in the guest house, furnished in the style of the Bulgarian Renaissance and ultra-modern hotels and hotel complexes. In the village there are restaurants and trattorias serving typical local cuisine.
