Picturesque Greek town of Veria is famous for its rich cultural and historical heritage. The sights of the city and its fascinating centuries-old history annually attract huge number of tourists from different countries.

During the Byzantine era, the city flourished and was an important trading and cultural centre. Most of the ancient temples, well-preserved in Berea to the present day, were built by the Byzantines. It is not surprising that one of the main attractions of Veria and is considered a magnificent Byzantine Museum, which opened its doors to visitors in 2002. It is located in the historic district Ciritics in an old three-storey building, built in the early 20th century, where once stood the mill of Marcos".

In the exposition of the Byzantine Museum presents a huge number of interesting exhibits of Byzantine and post-Byzantine eras. Here you can see the magnificent collection of portable icons (including bilateral), stunning frescoes, fragments of mosaic floors, antique manuscripts, important historical documents and early printed books. Also of considerable interest are ceramics, Byzantine coins, woodcuts and more.

Today, the Byzantine Museum of Veria is one of the best museums in Greece. It was created to promote among the younger generation of the city's history, or rather such important milestones as the Byzantine era. Besides the permanent exhibition called "Veria – part of the Byzantine Empire", the Museum regularly hosts temporary exhibitions.
