Vileika reservoir is the largest artificial reservoir in Belarus. Its area 64, 6 square meters.

The decision to build the Vilia reservoir was made to improve the water supply of the capital of Belarus Minsk. A crucial role in the decision has played, the quality of water is one of the cleanest reservoirs of the former USSR.

Construction began in 1968. At the same time a reservoir was built and the canal linking the river Svisloch and the Neris. In order to raise the water channel by 70 feet, was built several pumping stations. After the collapse of the USSR the Republic of Belarus has high hopes for Vileika HPP, the construction of which was begun in 1995. Now put in operation the first and second phase.
