Viseu Cathedral, or Sé Cathedral, located on the highest point of the city. The Cathedral is also the seat of the Bishop of Viseu. The temple was built in the XII century and is considered the most important historical monument in the city. The building attracts attention because it combines a variety of architectural styles: the Manueline, Renaissance and mannerism. Se Cathedral is located on the main square, next to the old Bishop's Palace, which is now a Museum to Gran Vasco.

The building of the Cathedral is the site of a Christian Basilica, built during the rule of the suebi. In VIII century the city was occupied by the Moors and was under their influence, until the XI century. And after the city was liberated by Ferdinand I, the city began construction of a Cathedral on the site of the ruins of the Basilica. The Church was not completely destroyed, it was restored and expanded by adding various architectural elements. In the sixteenth century were carried out reconstruction work on the temple roof, was restored facade. Later there had been some changes in the interior of the Cathedral ceiling of the nave was vaulted, with decorated in the Manueline style.

Today before us is a magnificent building with three naves in the form of a Latin cross with three chapels, situated in the Eastern side, and a transept. Inside the Cathedral is an altar in the Gothic style, on the walls – tiles of the XVIII century. Attracts the attention of the organ and pulpit in Baroque style. In 1635 the tower of the Cathedral and portal Manueline were destroyed during the storm, but they were soon restored.
