Slightly higher Tolchkovskaya settlement, on the territory of the Spaso-Preobrazhensky monastery once stood Nikolo-Skovorodki monastery, and next to him was a small village of Melenki. The office received its name in honor previously existing in this territory flour-grinding windmills. It is believed that the name of the monastery comes from an iron skillet or bill, by which the monks notify about the beginning of the service. The history of the monastery known that in 1609, the monastery was ravaged by the poles, and over 1650-ies when it lived whacky blessed Elijah, who foretold the fire that toppled almost the entire city. In 1660-ies of the monastery was abolished. At this point in 1668 held the Foundation stone of St. Nicholas Church with the chapel of St. Procopius. The consecration of the temple built was in the autumn of 1672. During 1705-1707, produced a wall painting of the Church when a small gang of painters from Yaroslavl. Once all construction work had been completed, another Church was consecrated by St. Dimitri of Rostov Metropolitan.

It is important to note that the permanent benefactors and donors of the Church were rich merchants by name Kartinkin. Since the 17th century, when the Nicholas-Melnicoe Church ever conducted a small Obituary, which was used to record the most important and significant events in the life of Yaroslavl, but also in the whole country. The temple project was designed by the famous academician of architecture named Vasil'ev A. I. the Church was only completed in 1908 – just in time for the 50th anniversary of the factory, which was a sign of expressing genuine gratitude to the Lord for its fruitful existence.
In the autumn of 1908 the Church was consecrated in the opening ceremony. In the Church there were three altars, one of which is main – consecrated in honor of John the faster, and the other two side altars in honor of Andrew of Crete, and the Archangel Michael. These saints were chosen as the saints of thrones, because they were the namesake founders of the partnership BY. The temple was built on allocated funds Andrey Alexandrovich and Ivan Andreevich Kartinkin and Gabriel M. Igumnov. The temple could accommodate about three thousand people.
In the parish were three schools: class of 450 students, parochial, accommodating 120 students and school dedicated to literacy for 240 students. The parish was influenced Predtechenskii temperance society, the meetings of which were sometimes held in the theater hall BAM.
