In Yaroslavl, one of the most notable attractions is the monument of Amet-Khan Sultan, who is the Hero of the Soviet Union. He was a Lieutenant Colonel and a distinguished test pilot of the USSR. The memorial monument is located in Zavolzhsky area of Yaroslavl.

About the exploits of Amet-Khan Sultan to have survived a lot of information. It is known that he was born in 1920 and died in 1971. The monument is located in Yaroslavl, not just because his first air combat victory celebrated in the future, the pilot has won in the skies over this city. In the spring of 1942 all his ammunition was expended, and he went to RAM the German bomber Junkers-88", which was directed at the destruction of the railway bridge across the Volga. It is the "Junkers-88" was the first combat aircraft, which was shot down near Yaroslavl.

A few days after the incident, the hero of Amet-Khan was invited to the city of Yaroslavl, where a large gathering of the people of the city Committee on defence decided to put on display all the downed warplane. Pilot awarded nominal hours, as well as honorary testimonial certificate. Later the brave pilot was awarded the order of Lenin.

The idea of creating the monument was first conceived in 2008, was initiated by Vera Kuznetsova is a famous ethnographer, which is carefully studied such a difficult feat. During the development of the project in fact took part and Aslambek of Dolgatov is the representative of Dagestan in the Yaroslavl region. Funding for the project was carried out at the expense of funds received from the entrepreneurs of Dagestan or Yaroslavl region. The total amount of funds expended amounted to more than 17 million rubles.

In 2009 underwent a major competition, which was chosen as the author of the monument; it is important to note that the organization of the contest came from the administration of Zavolzhsky district, and with the support of the "national Assembly of Russia". Applications for participation in the competition came not only from the Yaroslavl region, but also from Dagestan and Moscow. Following the contest was fashioned after the bust Amet-Khan sculptor from Dagestan, as well as Honored artist Magomed-Ali Aliyev. July 30 in 2010 took place the solemn ceremony of opening the monument of Amet-Khan Sultan. At the end of the ceremony all those present paid tribute Ali-Khan with a moment of silence, which was followed by a military salute and traditional laying of flowers.

The height of the monument – 15 m. It is represented by the silver arrows, made of aluminum and steel, over which is a bronze bust of the Hero, standing on a granite pedestal.
