The Church of the virgin Mary Nemetskiy is located in the small village Centar, which is about 6 miles North from the centre of Zagreb.

The first evidence of a Church in the area Remeta belong to 1288. After the Turkish invasion in the 16th century the Church was rebuilt, but the earthquake of 1880, it was destroyed, and in 1882 it was rebuilt under the leadership of Hermann Bolle. Since 1963, is controlled carmelitani.

Centar is located in the valley of mount Medvednica. There the monks of Pauline founded a monastery and built a Church. In 1790 the monastic order was dissolved, but the Church of the virgin Mary Nemetskiy to this day remains a popular place of pilgrimage. The greatest stream of pilgrims heading in Remeta 15 August and 8 September, in the days of the feasts of the assumption and of the Nativity of the virgin.

The Church building built in the Gothic style, and the façade is in Baroque style. In the main altar of the Church you can see a wooden statue of the virgin Mary, created in the 15th century. There is a belief that the statue has miraculous effect.

The Church of the virgin Mary Nemetskiy is also famous for colorful Baroque frescoes on the ceiling. The researchers suggest that the author of the frescoes was Ivan Ranger, monk-artist of Lepoglava who traveled a lot. Many of the frescoes can be seen believers in traditional folk costumes of Northern Croatia, which also honor the virgin Mary Nemetskiy because she helped during the famine, floods and fires.

Near by the Church is the pillar with the figure of St. Simeon Stylites (the Saint of the 5th century), which is held in the Syrian desert for 26 years.
