The country has about 20 national parks, Kafue, Sioma ngwezi, Northern Luangwa, South Luangwa, national Park etc. Y. Luangwa is located 250 km North-East of Lusaka. This is the best Park in Zambia - the vegetation is dense woodland, there are also plenty of grassy plains and water lagoons. Mammals that can be seen include lion, Buffalo, numerous zebras and giraffe Thornycroft. The Park is also home to one of the largest populations of elephant in Africa, and especially famous for its leopards and birds. The Park is closed during the rainy season from December to April.
The Kafue national Park is 200 km West of Lusaka. It is an extensive Park, the largest in Zambia, hundreds of square kilometers of forest, sandbanks and sandy cans of the Kafue river. The Park is considered to be the main Safari territory, with numerous lions, leopards, elephants, antelopes and zebras, even Dating Veyron yellow Duiker (South African antelope). All this enormous area (750 sq km) flooded from March to may, and then the Park becomes a giant swamp, a breeding ground for thousands and thousands of hippos and millions of birds. Another good place for bird watching - lake itezhi-tezhi, where herons, ducks and many other water birds are building millions of nesting and hatching.
