The mausoleum Chini ka Rauza Photo: Mausoleum Chini ka Rauza

In a wonderful Indian city of Agra is full of cultural and architectural monuments. One such important historical sites is the mausoleum of Chini-ka-Rauza, built by order of the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan for his first Minister and poet Allama Afzal Khan of Mullah, who died in 1635.

Initially, there was built a complex of buildings that were enclosed by a high wall with two gates – North and South. But, unfortunately, to the present day the majority of the buildings remained only ruins, while the mausoleum remained in good condition. It has a square shape, the corners are small towers, typical of buildings of Mughal era, and the roof is crowned by a large dome. Each of the four sides is decorated with an arch, and has a height of about 24 meters. Central inner hall, where is the tomb of Allama Afzal Khan of Mullah, has an octagonal shape and in it are four entrances, through which it connects with four smaller halls.

In General, the style is unique, the tomb, fairly restrained, its lines and shapes are simple and concise as to the Indo-Persian architecture. But, all the walls and ceilings are covered with stunning beauty and elegance with patterns and motifs that are lined with brightly-coloured ceramic tiles, which was specially brought from China. For each part of the building was used a specific color, for labeling the Central arch was selected tile blue color, and its bordering blue, yellow and green. While for finishing the remaining arches were used by the blue and orange tiles. On some walls the pattern is very well preserved and you can clearly imagine how the mausoleum looked like originally.
