Picturesque lake Teletskoe is located in a tectonic basin in the northeastern part of the Altai in Ulagan and Turochaksky areas of the Altai Republic. From all sides the lake is surrounded by mountain ranges, up to 2500 m. In lake Teletskoye get 70 rivers and more watercourses.

The locals call the lake Altyn Kol, Golden lake. The modern name of the lake received about 400 years ago by the first Russian explorers. The lake was named in honor of the Altai tribes – Teleuts, who previously lived on these shores.

The total length of the lake with an area of 223 square km is about 77, 7 km, the maximum width is 5 km, and the average is in the range of 2-3 km as the depth of the lake is quite deep: maximum depth of 325 m and an average of 175 m. the Lake is very clean, so it is often compared to lake Baikal.
