Historical Museum in Asenovgrad is located in the city center in a building built in 1895, which once housed the officers ' club. The Museum was founded in 1971 and has its display in three exhibition halls with a total area of 200 sq km. the Collection includes about 1,000 items.
The first room is a section on Archaeology. Here is a story about life in the region since the 7th Millennium B. C. Visitors can see stone and bone tools, household items and worship, pottery Neolithic times, many prehistoric findings. Special attention is found in the village of Moldava ceramic product in the form of a deer. Stone axes with holes carved from bone idols, ceramics, etc. illustrative of the life of the local settlers during the bronze age. The media culture of the bronze age and then iron age (Hallstatt culture) in this region were the Thracian tribe Besi. The Museum has collected their weapons for defense and attack, a collection of marble slabs, bronze vessels, statuettes of gods and more. In the exposition, dedicated to the Thracian period can be found dated to the I century B. C. the tomb with four-wheeled chariot and dying rich gifts.
As a result of archeological excavations on the territory of Assenov fortress scientists have discovered many pieces of medieval times. In the section "Ethnography" presented national costumes, ornaments, fabrics and household items.
