In the South-Eastern part of the town of Asenovgrad, you can admire the Church of St. George. This temple complex, which was erected in 1845 to 1848 in specially intended courtyard surrounded by high stone walls with fountains in stone, decorated with mosaics and niches. Above the entrance to the Church property was subsequently made a one-storey annexe. Originally the building was used as a temple, in the courtyard of which was located the school.

For its size the Church is the largest in the city: she is 35 meters long and 18 meters wide; the highest dome reaches 16 meters. The main building was built of white stone brought from the village Kurudere (now territory of Turkey). Also used in the construction of the syenite mineral mined in the hills near the town of Plovdiv.

The Basilica consists of an apse and three naves: two rows of six columns divide the space of the Church into three parts. The walls and ceiling inside the complex are painted with frescoes depicting the faces of Christ, saints and angels, and scenes from the Bible. In the interior are dominated by blue and cyan colors. The roof of the Church is decorated with three low towers with domes. The Central and largest of them – sky-blue. Temple walls topped with two bell-towers, walls are whitewashed and decorated with exquisite patterns in blue and turquoise tones and murals.
