Over the city neighborhoods of Athens, in the heart of the city is dominated by mount lykavittos (Lycabettus) hill. The mountain height of 277 meters above sea level. This is a legendary location with a great view of Athens, the Acropolis, the sea and the mountains surrounding the city.

According to legend, the goddess Athena wanted her sanctuary, located on the Acropolis, was closer to the sky. One day she went to mount Pentelikon and pulled from it a piece of rock to hoist it on top of the Acropolis. When she came back, she was stopped by two birds, which brought bad news. Athena threw the rock and hurried after them. Conceived, she was never implemented, and the mountain was still where we left her.

In ancient times, Lycabettus hill was covered with dense forest, but by the early 19th century on the mountain there was not a single tree. To restore the vegetation started only in 1880. Once there lived a wolf, so Lycabettus hill called Wolf mountain.

On top of the mountain is the Byzantine Church of St. George, also called the Church of the Holy Siderea. It was built in XI-XII centuries, then the Byzantine Empire and Christianity has significantly strengthened its position. In 1930 a fire destroyed the Church, but in 1931 the white temple was fully restored. On Easter night, parishioners come down from the candles down and gives the impression that the Lycabettus hill is encircled by a fiery ribbon.

Lycabettus hill is a Paradise for romantics. Pine and cypress trees, narrow paths and cozy wooden benches... all this will not leave indifferent lovers of peace and quiet. Surprising that lykavittos, also called the mountain of Love.

On top of the mountain is the outdoor theater. In the summer there are concerts and theatrical performances. Also on the hill is a cozy restaurant Orizontes, where you can relax and enjoy the magnificent scenery.
