Portuguese Venice, also known as the city of Aveiro is surrounded by beautiful beaches and lagoons, and salt mines, which brought wealth to this town. Carmelite Church - part of a former Carmelite monastery, which was founded in 1657 by the fourth Duke of Aveiro. The building was fully completed in 1738. In the architecture of the building are intertwined mannerism and Baroque, which is typical for the architecture of religious buildings of that time in Portugal. The style of mannerism in architecture of the temple gives it a rigor. The Church building has a rectangular form, the interior of the temple is decorated with numerous murals and gilded woodwork, which is typical of Baroque. The Church is known for his paintings of the ceiling of the nave. The paintings show scenes from the life of the reformer of the Carmelite order, a Spanish nun Saint Teresa of Avila. Notable also tiled panels made tiles "Azulejos" in white and blue colors, which depict religious scenes. It is worth noting that all the saints of the Carmelite order in the Church is framed with a rich gilded Raymi.
