Catholic Church St. Martin is located in the heart of Bamberg, close to the Old town hall. Each tourist can visit here if you come to the island between two arms of a beautiful river Regnitz. This temple is admired for its appearance and does not leave indifferent any visitor.
St Martin Church is designed in the Baroque style, it was built thanks to the efforts of the representatives of the Jesuit order in the late seventeenth century. The sample was taken, the Church of Il Gesu, located in Rome. The architects of this amazing building was made by George and Leonard Dienzenhofer, they are carefully managed all the construction work, which lasted for as much as 7 years. Upon completion of construction in 1693, the Church was consecrated in the name of Jesus Christ, and three years later it was decorated with new attached bell tower.
In the inner decoration of the temple can be seen today preserved the works of the talented Flemish painter Oswald Ungers. Image such saints as Francis Xavier and Ignatius Loyola admire their uniqueness and beauty. Particularly noteworthy is the dome of the Church, where you can review the work of Giovanni Francesco of Martini. Looking at the facade, it is impossible not to notice the miraculous figure of the virgin and of Jesus Christ and some saints.
During the period of secularization in the country in 1806, this Church became a parish and was subsequently consecrated in the name of St. Martin. This amazing man was in the cavalry, he once gave: striped beggar by the road his cloak. After he left military service, Martin has for several years lived as a hermit in the desert called Ligue. Subsequently, he was summoned to tours, where he was proclaimed Bishop. Today the Church of St. Martin is considered the largest parish in Bamberg.
