Casa batlló is one of three buildings on the street Passeig de Gracia, forming the so-called "Block of discord", which got its name because of catchy, unusual and nothing like each other the architecture of these buildings.
This house, built in 1877, was purchased by the textile industrialist don josé batlló by Casanovas, who commissioned its reconstruction to an outstanding architect Antoni Gaudi. A consummate master of modernism completely redid both of the façade, the main of which goes on Passeig de gràcia, and the rear in the inside of the cabin house. Were also completely redesigned the mezzanine and the first floor of the building, a patio, and the reconfiguration of its interior. Along with Gaudi in the reconstruction of the house was attended by a large number of people: architects Domingo Sugranyes and Jose Canaleta, sculptors Jose Limon and Carlos Mani, masters of interior Juan Rubio and josé Maria Jujol, masters of furniture and carpentry of Cakes and Barges and Smiths brothers Wadia.
If I had to describe the Casa batlló in one word, it would be best if the word "fabulous". And really, this mansion looks like some strange house where fairy tale characters live. Sometimes it is difficult to believe that this home was designed and built in reality. Many researchers of Gaudi's architecture believe that this house begins a new stage of his work, is not subject to any architectural styles, showing only his vision and embodying his fantasy.
Feature of this house can be called the almost complete lack of proper and clear lines, the outlines of all elements of the facade surprise curves, this plasticity continues in the interiors. There is an assumption that the idea of the facade of the house is inspired by the master story of the victory of the patron Saint of Catalonia. George over the Dragon. Indeed, the roof of the building, absolutely wrong forms, clad in scale-like tiles of complex color. The main facade is covered with mosaics of glass and ceramic tiles from Golden to greenish-turquoise tones, resembling scales, and the master himself controlled the correctness of the figure laying workers. The intricate shape of the balconies and complicated Bay Windows with original columns resemble the bones of the animal. And emblazoned on the roof of the tower, which is crowned by the George cross.
The interior of the house is an intricate labyrinth with unique curved staircases and vaulted ceilings. Impressive decorative elements, metal grilles, window openings, and the items of furniture created by Gaudi.
Today, Casa batlló is part of a UNESCO world heritage site.
