Casa Milà is the last object of civil construction of the prominent Catalan architect Antonio Gaudi, created before the beginning of his work on the famous Cathedral Sagrada-Familia. The Casa Mila was built in the period from 1906 to 1910 on the corner of Passeig de Gracia and Carre de Provenca.
The house project Casa Mila is replete with truly innovative ideas, chief of which was the fact that all the main burden fell on the building frame, wherein the inner rooms had a free plan. Gaudi himself once said that La Pedrera can be easily converted into a hotel due to its flexible layout. These principles have been widely disseminated and universally applied subsequently in architecture. Besides in house project developed a unique ventilation system, there is an underground garage. Initially, the project Gaudi provided for elevators in the house, which in the construction process were not included, they have been established much later. Like all the buildings of Gaudi, Casa Mila has a patio, thanks to which it is possible to ensure that all internal areas of the house with natural light.
The facade of the building is entirely curved, flexible and smooth lines. Externally, the house looks extraordinary and quite rough, so the people of Barcelona immediately nicknamed him La Pedrerа, which translates as "the quarry". Thus, it is impossible not to mention the quirkiness, originality and unusual beauty of wrought iron balcony and window enclosures, made by the master Josep-Maria Gollem, many of which were created with the direct participation of the Gaudi. But the most striking and surprising "sculpture garden", created on the roof of this unusual house.
In 1984, the Casa Mila was the first of the buildings of the XX century on the List of UNESCO world heritage.
