The oldest in Biarritz confectionery Miremont is located on the Georges Clemenceau. Perhaps this place more often than other confectionery world, seen in its walls just nobles and even royalty. So, here loved to drop in for lunch, a young Spanish king Alfonso XIII, sweets from Miremont relished the king of great Britain and Ireland Edward VII, did not escape his attention this cozy place and the Portuguese Queen Amelia of Orleans. These and other eminent visitors loved coming in a tea salon in a candy store. The desserts that were served, were considered the most expensive but also the most delicious.
As aptly noted poet and dramatist Edmond Rostand, speaking about a large number of titled visitors in a candy store: "five o'clock in the cabin Miremont less rum Bab than Queens, and less cakes than the great Dukes and princes".
This earthly Paradise for the sweet tooth was opened in 1872. The first owner of the confectionery was Stephen singer, a young pastry chef from St Moritz. Second owner in 1880 became a Baker Joseph Mirman, whose name gave the name of the school, under which it has existed for about 140 years.
Today the candy store and the interior of the nineteenth century equated to other historical monuments of the country. It is possible not only to buy sweets, cooked according to old recipes, but also enjoy other meals in the cafe, drink tea or coffee – almost like kings and Queens in the late XIX – early XX century.
