In a small village on Podporuje Boksitogorsk district, there are approximately a thousand people, but in this place in the autumn of 1941 began construction of a military road No. 102, which has become an integral part of the famous Road of life.

Legendary monument was erected near the railway station of the village Podporuje, right on the forecourt. About the history of the emergence and establishment of the monument of detail in books devoted to the siege of Leningrad. The capture of Tikhvin took place on 8 September, which completely blocked the branch trains Tikhvin – Volkhov, which carried a special strategic importance for the defensive tactics of Leningrad.
