Peter and Paul Church is located in the village Somyno Boksitogorsk district. The Church is also called Jerominski, as it is over 3 thousand kilometers from Jerusalem shrines and is with her on the same parallel. The Church is in a spiritual relationship with St. Petersburg, as it is a reduced copy of the Peter and Paul Cathedral.
The history of this village is closely linked with the development of the Tikhvin water system. Rise of the village is in the middle of the 19th century. Then the village was called the Marina Semina. Hence the merchants traded with the Volga cities. The population Somyno was carrier and trade.
Marina village during the period of active development of the Tikhvin water system has become one of the most important points. In this place they built river ships-sominki and Tikhvinka, unloaded and loaded the arriving boats. During navigation on this dock rushed porters, boatmen, boatmen. Residents here were few, in summer, from the surrounding area gathered thousands of people.
Somyno quickly grew. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries in the village had four schools: female parochial, regional, second-class parish with an exemplary school with her. The village was the centre of the parish, so here was located the township Board, County station, credit Association, district hospital, post office, consumer society. In Somyno fairs: in honor of the Holy Martyr Blaise, Bishop Seismische (in his honor in the village was an ancient chapel) – in February, in honor of Peter and Paul in June, on the exaltation.
In 1820, local residents filed a petition to the Emperor Alexander I about the construction of the village Church in honor of the Holy apostles Peter and Paul. These apostles were not casually chosen by the patrons. The well-being of the village was closely connected with the construction and development of the Tikhvin water system. It was created on the initiative of Peter the great, and implemented the project began during the reign of Paul I. In memory of the works of these two emperors, the temple and dedicated to the apostles Peter and Paul.
In 1823 Alexander I visited the Novgorod province. They drove through Somyno. Local residents took the opportunity to reiterate his petition. And the permission to build the Church. The construction of the temple was entrusted with an A. A. Arakcheev. The Church was built on the people's money, fees from vessels, which were held at the aquatic system, donations of merchants. The temple was built in the period from 1839 to 1844 years. The Cathedral was consecrated in 1841. Among local churches of Peter and Paul Cathedral was distinguished by the richness of decoration and special grandeur.
In 1930 the Church was closed. In 1937, bell dropped the cross spire with an angel and a bell. Since 1948 the Church was again active.
7 June 2007 on the spire of one of the domes again established angel (reduced copy with the Peter and Paul Cathedral in St. Petersburg). The Church has chapels in honour of the Exaltation and in the name of Martyr Blaise.
