The Museum of the Risorgimento opened in 2005-m to year on the upper floors of the Grande Miglio – part of the castle of Brescia, built in the late 16th century and once served as a granary for the Venetian garrison.
The exposition of the Museum is organized according to a modern interpretation of the historical events of the period of the Risorgimento – the movement for Italian unification in the mid-19th century. Here you can see a variety of exhibits from various Museum collections, including portraits, memorabilia, official announcements and publications which document the epic deeds and Patriotic appeals that led to the creation of a unified Italian nation. Through all this, the Museum introduces visitors to the main events of the Risorgimento – the everyday items and everyday language of those years together with the documents help to understand the value of historic transformations.
Special attention is paid to local historical events that led to the formation in 1797, the year of the Republic of Brescia and the famous ten-day revolt "Dieci "" and the role of Brusentsev in the revolutionary war.
Part of the Museum collection was used to create thematic route, dedicated to the battle of San Martino and Solferino, known as the "Grande Battaglia" - the Great battle. This route allows you to travel back in time, deep into Italian history, and to be in 1859, the year: the exhibition presents the events of the Second war for independence and its main participants – from Napoleon III and Cavour and Vittorio Emanuele II, Garibaldi. Special attention is paid to one of the major battles of the Risorgimento – the battle of San Martino and Solferino, which led to the defeat of Austria and Lombardy under the rule of the Kingdom of Sardinia.
In the Museum you can see various artifacts – maps, which indicated the movement of troops, flags, prints, paintings, sculptures, etc., as well as obituaries memorial, advocacy documents, illustrations and physical evidence, in any complex and bloody conditions, history was made Italy.
The exposition draws attention to the city of Brescia, who at the time was turned into a huge hospital, and in which the Patriotic fever mixed with simple human compassion. In the bloody battle of San Martino and Solferino had the idea of creating the International red cross – it was founded by Henry Dunant, a party battle.
