Freedom square is considered one of the most spacious squares in old Brno. It was founded in the XIII century and was formerly known as the Lower market. Along its perimeter built their palaces and mansions of the most respected citizens of Brno. Unfortunately, none of those buildings have not survived to our days in its original form. They were subjected to reconstruction, during which the updated facades, and completely changed the face. Some of them were United in one complex, the other destroyed. The fate of the latter befell the old Cathedral of St. Nicholas, which until 1870 was decorated with the square and took parishioners.
