Central synagogue – the largest synagogue in Europe and second largest in the world, after Emmanuel Synagogue in new York. It was built in 1859 in the Mauritanian-Byzantine style by the Austrian architect Ludwig Förster. The building was partially destroyed during the Second World war, but then restored to its original splendor.
