The name of the Central Bohemian town of rakovník is derived from the word "cancer". According to local legend, one poor woman could not feed their children during the lean years. Then she caught crayfish, cooked them, and fed their kids. In the Middle ages it was believed that in the process of cooking the crabs are toxic, getting red. But children are not only not dead, but recovered, and soon began to run around the yard. As locals found out about the new food, and was named in honor of their city.
The rakovník famous all over the Czech Republic in that it is one of the oldest Breweries in the country - "Pivovar Rakovnik". It produces several brands of beer, among which the famous "Bakalar" and "Cernovar". First beer in rakovník cooked in 1454. And so it pleased the king Ferdinand I, that he granted the town the right to put this intoxicating drink to his court. Locals explain the subtle taste of beer special water and local hops grown in ecologically clean area. Since the Foundation of local Breweries, the brewers got so many awards for the quality of their product that they would have to allocate an entire room.
But the rakovník will be interesting not only to fans of Czech beer. He offers to have it inspected its guests many interesting architectural features. For example, here are preserved from the fifteenth century, the city gate, which used to be part of the fortress walls. They were built in the Gothic style and has stood the test of time.
Interesting and the Church of St. Bartholomew, built in the XIV century and rebuilt in the late fifteenth century. Inside you can see a carved pulpit, resembling in its appearance the bowl and dated 1504.
